Minelab CTX-3030 Waterproof Metal Detector w/ Exclusive Accessory Package

Regular price £1,989.00

Minelab is a well-known brand in the world of metal detectors. With excellent customer service, rigid construction and quality performance, does it warrant the price tag or are you paying mostly for the brand?

In this review, we’ll be taking a deep look into the top-of-the-range Minelab CTX 3030 Metal Detector to help you decide if it’s worth your money.

MINELAB CTX 3030 FEATURES

On the surface, the CTX 3030 looks and feels like a premium-quality product that is worthy of your money. It’s built from the ground up as a high-performance treasure detector that is suitable for all types of terrain, featuring advanced technologies like FBS2 and Smartfind 2 to provide precise FeCo discrimination.

It also has GPSi for incredible accuracy when recording geo locations and Wi-Stream helps to reduce audio latency while simultaneously providing perfect sound quality.

The CTX 3030 comes with a full-colour screen where you’ll find several buttons that give you access to all of the configuration options and on-the-go adjustments such as noise cancelling and sensitivity settings.

A handy feature here is the customisable user button which allows you to quickly switch your settings when needed. It’s easy to navigate and, assuming you read the manual and get used to all of the options, provides a surprising amount of flexibility.

In terms of programs, you’ll find that Modes 1 to 5 are great for beginners to jump in and get started. You’ll find presets for coins, beaches, relics, silver and high trash.

These settings make it easy for someone to get started with hunting, but you can add five custom programs that you can switch to at any time. The mix of custom options and presets makes this the perfect metal detector for people of all experience levels.

Compared to cheaper metal detectors, the FeCo discrimination features on the CTX 3030 are a lot more involved and take some practice getting used to.

Thankfully, this is made easier with the LCD screen that displays properties such as conductivity on a scale to help you determine what you’ve found before you decide to dig it up. You can also adjust what is rejected and accepted, offering you a lot more control over the audio signals that it plays.

In short, the price easily reflects all of the advanced features that the CTX 3030 offers. It’s clear that it was designed as a high-end product for experienced hunters, but it does come with some useful features that make it easy for someone to pick up the CTX 3030 and start using it on a hunt.

USING THE MINELAB CTX 3030

So what’s it like to use the Minelab CTX 3030?

When you first hold the CTX 3030, it’s easy to see and feel the difference between it and cheaper alternatives.

It’s built to last, it has options that tailor it to the user’s height and preferences, and it offers a plethora of features and settings. Using it is simply a joy and you can simply turn it on, put on the headphones and start hunting with its default presets.

However, we feel that you’re seriously missing out on the potential that the CTX 3030 has if you use it just like any other metal detector.

What we mean is that you really need to invest time to learn the settings and adjust the custom presets to your desired levels. This will greatly enhance the experience during your hunts, but you have to spend some time tweaking the sensitivity to achieve this.

It’s also not the lightest metal detector available and you’ll definitely feel it in your arms after a long session, but the weight distribution is balanced and we can hardly complain about weight when it packs so many features.

SUMMARY

Overall, the Minelab CTX 3030 is definitely suitable for beginners and experienced hunters alike. Its plethora of features and customisation options are nothing to laugh at, offering serious hunters all of the settings and tweaks they could ask for.

However, if you’re unable to make good use of these features, we feel that it wastes the potential of the CTX 3030. Of course, if you’re looking for the best of the best or a metal detector that is suitable for budding beginners that have a passion for the hobby, it’s a fantastic choice.
